چکیده
This study attempts a holistic approach to past foodways in prehistoric northern Gujarat, India, by considering evidence of food production, distribution, preparation and consumption. We present here the results pilot residue study, integrating lipid starch grain analyses, conducted on 28 ceramic vessels from three Chalcolithic/Harappan settlements (c. 3300–2000 cal. BC) which are discussed light previous plant animal acquisition strategies this region. aim explore how inhabitants Gujarat transformed ingredients into meals, focusing different foodstuffs were processed. When assessed their own, compound-specific isotopic data suggest that fats primarily processed vessels, specifically non-ruminant fats. However, analysis favors detection fat-rich products is often unable disentangle signatures resulting mixing products. The incorporation analyses provides for processing range plants such as cereals, pulses underground storage organs. Together, provide perspective way forward overcoming preservational interpretational limitations.

First molecular and isotopic evidence of millet processing in prehistoric pottery vessels
Analysis of organic residues in pottery vessels has been successful in detecting a range of animal and plant products as indicators of food preparation and consumption in the past. However, the identification of plant remains, especially grain crops in pottery, has proved elusive. Extending the spectrum is highly desirable, not only to strengthen our understanding of the dispersal of crops from...

15 صفحه اولEarly Eocene primates from Gujarat, India.
The oldest euprimates known from India come from the Early Eocene Cambay Formation at Vastan Mine in Gujarat. An Ypresian (early Cuisian) age of approximately 53Ma (based on foraminifera) indicates that these primates were roughly contemporary with, or perhaps predated, the India-Asia collision. Here we present new euprimate fossils from Vastan Mine, including teeth, jaws, and referred postcran...
